Making the most of Calgary's short outdoor season

Calgary's outdoor season runs from roughly late April to mid-October — about 24 weeks. That's not much time, and the transitions at both ends are abrupt. Spring arrives quickly after a long, dry winter, leaving yards full of winter debris, dead plant material and compacted edges. Fall prep needs to happen before the first hard frost — often in September — to protect perennials, clean up beds and store outdoor furniture.

The frustrating reality for many Calgary homeowners is that both transitions happen during the busiest weeks of the year — spring sports, back-to-school, long weekends. The yard gets overlooked until it's either embarrassing or genuinely behind schedule. A single focused yard work visit in May and another in September handles the seasonal transitions properly so the yard doesn't fall behind.

Note on spring booking: Spring cleanup requests come in fast in late April and early May. Book early — spots fill within days of the first warm weekend.

How a yard work visit works

1

Walk and confirm scope

We walk the yard with you (or from the quote photos), agree on exactly what's included and confirm any specific areas to prioritize or avoid.

2

Work systematically

Cleanup proceeds zone by zone — beds, borders, lawn edges, pathways — working efficiently through the agreed list without cutting corners.

3

Bag, stack and confirm

Green waste is bagged or stacked neatly for city pickup. The finished yard is reviewed before we leave. Large volumes of waste may need city green cart arrangements.

Common reasons people book yard work

  • Spring cleanup after a long Calgary winter — yard looks abandoned
  • Just moved in — previous owners left yard overgrown or neglected
  • Summer busy season — can't keep up with edging and bed maintenance
  • Fall prep before first frost — need beds cleared and furniture stored
  • Selling — want the yard looking sharp before listing photos
  • Injury or mobility issue — need help with tasks you'd normally do yourself
  • Rental property — turning over between tenants with an overgrown yard

Landscaping & lawn care FAQ

Do you do regular weekly lawn mowing?

This service focuses on seasonal and one-time tasks rather than recurring weekly mowing. For ongoing mowing schedules, ask when booking — recurring visits can sometimes be arranged depending on the season and schedule.

Do you bring tools and equipment?

Yes — we bring standard yard tools including rakes, edging tools, shears and bags. For large volumes of material that need blowing or heavy-duty tools, let us know in advance.

What do you do with the yard waste?

Material is bagged or stacked for city green cart pickup. Calgary's green cart program accepts yard waste. For very large volumes, we recommend arranging a separate bin — we can advise on quantity.

Can you help with planting or landscaping design?

We handle cleanup, maintenance and refresh tasks. For planting, hardscaping or landscape redesign, a dedicated landscape company is the better fit.

How early should I book spring cleanup?

Book in late March or early April. The first warm weekend in Calgary triggers a wave of spring cleanup requests — usually around the last week of April. Waiting until May often means a 2–3 week wait. Early booking secures your preferred timing.

Can yard work be combined with other handyman jobs?

Yes. A popular combination is spring yard cleanup alongside deck and fence inspection or fall yard work alongside caulking and weatherstripping. Multi-service visits are more efficient and often better value.

Ready to tidy up the yard?

Not satisfied with the work? I will come back and make it right.
